The
Archdeaconry of Suffolk consists of one of the
largest counties in the state of New York.
It is a
multiplicity of contrasts; the Atlantic Ocean
with its lovely sand beaches along the south
shore, and Long Island Sound with its pebbled
beaches and bluffs of the north shore; the
spreading suburban communities in the western
regions and the rural farms, vineyards, quaint
villages with boating and fishing in the eastern
regions.
It is an area that includes both
the wealth of the Hamptons and poverty of
migrant workers.
It is a region with
many younger families buying homes and also
increasing numbers of senior citizen housing and
Life-Care communities. From Amityville to
Montauk Point and Huntington to Orient Point,
the Archdeaconry of Suffolk in the Diocese of
Long Island is first to feel the warmth of the
sun in the morning and first to see the shadows
lengthen and evening come.
With all this variety
within our geographical area we are responding
vigorously to the call of our Lord Jesus, "I
tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields!
