Long Island faith leaders pray and march in support of sanctuary on Maundy Thursday
On Maundy Thursday 2018, Mother Julie Hoplamazian, Mother Marie Tatro, and new honorary canon and immigrant-rights activist, Ravi Ragbir, all walked in support of the sanctuary movement.
The weekly “Jericho Walks”, organized by the New Sanctuary Coalition, usually take place at Federal Plaza where immigrants come in for their regular check-ins and hearings, but this one was different. Today, the group gathered first at the Trump International Hotel at Columbus Circle in Manhattan where they walked and prayed around the building. Then they marched to the Fourth Universalist Society on Central Park West where Aura Hernandez, an undocumented immigrant from Guatemala who has been threatened with deportation, will take sanctuary.
