St. Stephen and St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, celebrated the blessing of their new cornerstone on Saturday, May 5. The is the first church to be built in the Diocese of Long Island in 28 years and is the result of an innovative partnership with Pericles Noticas of Notias Construction of Flushing, NY, and with architect Shaneekua Henry of SLM Architecture, P.C. The partnership came after years of seeking options to rebuild their old building. Since the groundbreaking in 2015, the congregation has been worshiping in the basement of another church nearby. The new church building will be dedicated on September 8 and hold its first services the next day on September. At the cornerstone celebration, warden Althea Buckner said, “We’re anticipating [the opening] with bated breath. We’re almost there…it’ll be a very special moment.”
