The Rev. Dr. Glenworth Miles, rector of St. George's, will host an event on Monday, October 30 entitled "Race & Our Communities". The panel discussion will feature Congressman Hakeem Jeffries and other leaders and will include time for Q&A with the audience. The discussion will be moderated by the Rev. Marie Tatro, Vicar for Community Justice Ministry for the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island. The panel discussion will be the first of a series of events focused on racial justice and reconciliation at St. George's.The Rev. On Thursday, June 29, the Rev. Marie Tatro, Vicar for Community Justice Ministry for the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island, hosted a workshop regarding the role of clergy in the sanctuary movement. Ravi Ragbir, organizer with the New Sanctuary Coalition of NYC, and Richard Koubek, Community Outreach Coordinator for Long Island Jobs with Justice, were the presenters.

On Saturday, June 17, Episcopalians joined the 21st Brooklyn Pride Parade. Here, the Rev. Marie Tatro, Vicar for Community Justice Ministry in The Episcopal Diocese of Long Island and the Rev. John DeNaro, rector of St. Ann & the Holy Trinity, comment on the important role of the Church at these events.

On Monday, May 15, St. John's in Cold Spring Harbor, hosted an event designed to inform attendees about proven methods for treating and preventing opioid addiction. Over 100 people filled the parish hall for the presentation, "What Works: Practices for Reversing the Epidemic of Opioid Addiction & Overdose" by Dr. Lloyd Sederer (Psychiatrist and Professor at Columbia School of Public Health) and Dr. Leslie Marino, MPH (Addiction Specialist at Columbia University Medical Center). The event was a follow up to the "Action Against Opioids" event that took place at St. Anthony's High School on April 26. St. John's has joined a consortium of churches, schools, community organizations and individuals who signed on to the "Long Island Covenant to End Opioid Addiction". All members have pledged to take concrete steps to combating the opioid epidemic on Long Island.

Bishop Provenzano and several other clergy from the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island joined a forum with over 1,200 community leaders and students at St. Anthony's High School focused on combatting the opioid epidemic on Long Island. The forum was organized by Long Island Congregations, Associations, and Neighborhoods (LI-CAN) last Wednesday evening at St. Anthony’s High School in South Huntington. Organizers planned for 400 participants. Instead, over 1,200, including high-school students, packed the gym at St. Anthony's. From the beginning, organizers were focused on action. Participants pledged to completing specific tasks by the time of their next planned meeting on October 26. Churches were asked to organize "listening campaigns", organize educations events, identify available resources, and develop a plan for identifying and training mental health "stewards" who could provide practical help and support to families facing the challenges of addiction.

Carol Russer, warden at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Valley Stream, had a vision for a program that would nourish the bodies, minds, and spirits of the retired, longtime residents in the surrounding communities. After many months of planning and discussion within the parish, the Senior Program of Activities, Refreshments, and Knowledge (SPARK) opened its doors in May 2016. Ever since, the weekly gathering draws a tight-knit group of women together who say the program enriches their lives.

Over 125 clergy from all over the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island attended Chrism Mass on the Tuesday of Holy Week (April 11, 2017). During the mass, clergy reaffirmed their ordination vows and Bishop Provenzano blessed the holy oils that will be used for baptisms, confirmations, ordinations and receptions, and anointing of the sick at parishes throughout the coming year.

Since November 2016, the Rev. Isaias Ginson has been a chaplain with Protestant Campus Ministry at Stony Brook University. On Ash Wednesday 2017, the Office of Communication Ministry sat with Fr. Ginson to talk about how he came to the Diocese of Long Island and his hopes for his future ministry at Stony Brook.
