At the 159th Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island, held November 14–15, Bishop Lawrence C. Provenzano awarded the Bishop’s Cross for Distinguished Diocesan Service to four individuals recognized for their lasting contributions to the Diocese of Long Island.

The Rev. Canon Patricia Mitchell was honored for her work as Canon for Pastoral Care. Her certificate cited her “devoted ministry,” “compassionate service,” and “unwavering commitment to justice, renewal, and reconciliation.” It also noted that since joining the Diocese in 2017, she has “faithfully supported the clergy and lay leadership” through pastoral care, counsel, and service as diocesan intake officer for Title IV matters.

Nancy Signore received the Bishop’s Cross for more than 42 years of service, including three decades as Human Resource Manager. Her citation praised her role in “educating, guiding, and implementing benefits and employment regulations” and her service as the key liaison with the Church Pension Fund.

The Rev. Matthew Tees was recognized for his fourteen years of leadership at Camp DeWolfe, where he “guided its mission with devotion, creativity, and deep faith,” while Emma Tees was commended for her “faithful and unselfish service” over the same period, helping sustain the camp’s ministry and supporting its transition to a family camp during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Reflecting on the honorees, Bishop Provenzano said, “Each of these individuals has strengthened the life of our Diocese through steadfast dedication and quiet, consistent leadership. Their ministries remind us what faithful service looks like in action.”
