The Diocese of Long Island gathered at the Cathedral of the Incarnation to mark the 90th Anniversary of the Diocesan Altar Guild, a ministry that has faithfully supported parishes across Long Island for nearly a century. The celebration began with a Festival Holy Eucharist, with the Rt. Rev. Lawrence C. Provenzano, Bishop of Long Island, serving as celebrant and the Rt. Rev. Geralyn Wolf, Assistant Bishop of Long Island, serving as preacher.

One of the most moving moments of the service was the blessing of hands. Clergy from across the Diocese joined together in this act of thanksgiving, recognizing the devotion and dedication of altar guild members whose behind-the-scenes ministry makes the worship of the Church possible.

Following the liturgy, the celebration continued at the Mercer School of Theology with a benefit luncheon. Altar guild members, clergy, parishioners, and friends shared fellowship, stories, and gratitude for the generations of service that have shaped the life of the Church on Long Island.

A video, produced for the occasion by Teddy Byrne, Communication & Video Production Manager for the Diocese of Long Island, features reflections from The Very Rev. Laurence G. Byrne, Chaplain to the Diocesan Altar Guild; Jane Ames, President of the DAG; Bishop Provenzano; and Bishop Wolf. Together, their voices tell the story of a ministry that has long been a witness to faithful service and continues to sustain the worship and life of the Church today.
