On Friday, May 1, Episcopal Health Services (EHS)celebrated the opening of the Walsh Ambulatory Pavilion, a new 65,000-square-foot, five-story outpatient facility at 19-20 Brookhaven Avenue in Far Rockaway, NY with a ceremonial ribbon cutting and reception. The building was named in honor of Gerard M. Walsh, former Chief Executive Officer and Board Member. The event was attended by executive leadership, board members, government officials and community members.
The program began with remarks from Bishop Lawrence Provenzano, President and Chairman of the EHS Board of Trustees, and Donald T. Morrish, MD, MMM, Chief Executive Officer of EHS who said, “For far too long residents of the Rockaway Peninsula have had to leave the Peninsula to receive the ambulatory care that they deserve. That day ends today.”
Additional remarks were delivered by Karen Paige, MBA, RN, CPHQ, CPPS, CPXP, OCN, Executive Vice President who said, “Today marks a defining moment not only for our organization but for the future of care for the community which we are privileged to care for and serve. This is not the opening of a building, it is a realization of a vision.”
Guests were then invited to tour the Walsh Ambulatory Pavilion, where they learned about services including primary care, behavioral health, obstetrics and gynecology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, and a new Endoscopy Center.
They also toured the EHS Cancer Center and learned about expanded medical oncology and hematology services, including immunotherapy, clinical trials, and a cancer navigation program supported by advanced diagnostic and treatment technologies. The Pavilion also marks the return of radiation oncology services to the Rockaway Peninsula for the first time in more than a decade.
