The Diocese of Long Island and the Black Clergy Caucus present the 2026 celebration of the Reverend Absalom Jones Day, Saturday, February 14

The Episcopal Diocese of Long Island invites you to join us for the annual celebration of the Reverend Absalom Jones, the first person of African descent to be ordained in the United States. This special service will honor his life, faith, and witness.

The Right Rev. Lawrence C. Provenzano, Bishop of Long Island, will preside, and the Rev. Kino Vitet, Rector of the Church of St. Mark, Brooklyn, will preach.

Join us as we give thanks for this remarkable figure in the life of our nation and our Church.


About the Rev. Kino Vitet

The Reverend Canon Kino Germaine Lockheart Vitet has served as Rector of the Church of St. Mark in Brooklyn, NY, since 2017. Born in Vieux-Fort, Saint Lucia, he holds degrees in civil engineering, city design, economics, and theology from Lehigh University, the London School of Economics, Fordham University, Yale University, Berkeley Divinity School, and Nashotah House. Prior to ordained ministry, he worked in economics, infrastructure, and planning at the Port Authority of NY & NJ. Ordained in 2011, he previously served at the Church of St. Mark and as Priest-in-Charge of St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church in Queens Village.
