The church is seeking a part-time Treasurer responsible for managing the financial operations and financial reporting for the church.

The ideal candidate should have experience with Quickbooks online. Work can be done remotely. Once or twice a month the Treasurer should come to the church office to pick up invoices and drop off paper checks, which require a second signature. Normally there is only about 8 hours of work per month, except when reporting to the Bishop’s Committee (an extra hour or 2, every 2 months or less), auditing the prior year’s finances with a 3-person independent committee according to the Diocese directions (5 hours) , and creating the annual budget (6 hours).

Treasurer is responsible for:

  • maintaining accurate and timely records of financial transactions in QuickBooks, including recording deposits from weekly service collections and PayPal.
  • paying creditors on a timely basis, by bank check, ACH or Quickbooks-printed check
  • Reconcile the operating account monthly with the bank statement.
  • providing a recommended budget to the Bishop’s Committee at the beginning of the year,
  • maintaining and reporting to the Bishop’s Committee on the actual to budget comparison at least as often as quarterly throughout the year and providing the balance sheet and statement of activity at end of the year, and earlier intervals if requested.
  • preparing all documents related to the end of year donations summaries, tax reports and reports to the Diocese. Note that Paychex, the payroll provider, will prepare 1099 forms. Contact Therese Lynaugh at the Diocese in December with the 1099 information.
  • reviewing the annual insurance coverage with the Bishop’s Committee.
  • Review all existing financial policies with the Bishop’s Committee annually.

Qualifications

Prior experience with Quickbooks online and working as a church treasurer is preferred. Hourly compensation is negotiable based upon skill and experience level. A successful completion of a background check is required. The selected candidate must complete “Safe Church” training provided by the Diocese.
