The Diocese of Long Island is engaged in a sacred and hopeful season of discernment as we prepare for the ordination and consecration of our ninth bishop on September 19, 2026. The commitment of the Transition Committee is to guide this process with prayer, transparency, integrity, and deep listening—honoring the ministry of our current bishop while preparing to welcome the bishop-elect, and ensuring a smooth, grace-filled path toward ordination.

For seventeen years, the Rt. Rev. Lawrence C. Provenzano, Eighth Bishop of Long Island, has served this diocese with faith, courage, creativity, and deep pastoral love. As part of this season of transition, the diocese is invited to gather in thanksgiving and celebration. Below you will find different ways of giving thanks for Bishop Provenzano's ministry.

Farewell Eucharist, Ceremony & Reception

Join us for a special Eucharist, Program and Reception, honoring Bishop Provenzano's tenure, defined by a commitment to progressive activism, institutional revitalization, and inclusive ministry.

Please note: Due to limited seating capacity in the Cathedral, this event is expected to reach capacity. Registration is required. The Eucharist and Celebration will be available via livestream for all.

Gratitude Journal

We are creating a special commemorative journal to honor Bishop Provenzano's profound impact and faithful leadership. This journal will serve as a lasting keepsake, reflecting the deep gratitude and affection of our entire diocese.
