What does faith demand when the consequences of slavery, colonialism, and racial injustice remain with us? What responsibilities belong to governments, churches, institutions, and the Caribbean diaspora?

In this compelling 190th Anniversary Public Lecture, Sir Ronald Sanders brings Caribbean history into conversation with Christian witness and the continuing struggle for justice.
From Haiti’s burden of “reparations in reverse” and Britain’s compensation of enslavers, to the practical work of repair in our own time, Sir Ronald makes the case for turning memory into responsibility — and responsibility into action.
This is a call for:
Justice without vengeance.
Truth without humiliation.
Reconciliation without surrendering memory.
Above all, it is a message of hope:
What human beings made, human beings can unmake; and what history has broken, faith can help repair.
About Sir Ronald Sanders
Sir Ronald Sanders is Ambassador of Antigua and Barbuda to the United States and the Organization of American States, Chair of the OAS Inter-American Council for Integral Development, and Chancellor of the University of Guyana.
A veteran diplomat, author and scholar of Caribbean and Commonwealth affairs, he has served three terms as Chair of the OAS Permanent Council and was a member and Rapporteur of the Commonwealth Eminent Persons Group. He is a longstanding advocate for the rights of small states and Caribbean development. His books include Crumbled Small: The Commonwealth Caribbean in World Politics. His published work includes sustained advocacy against racism, for the rights of people of African descent throughout the Americas, and for reparatory justice.
