Belizeans from across greater New York welcomed Prime Minister John Briceño to an ecumenical service celebrating 45 years of Belizean independence on September 27 at All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Park Slope.

Organized by the Belize Independence Worship Committee and officiated by the Rev. Raymond Dyer, the service featured remarks by Prime Minister Briceño; a sermon by the Rev. Earl Henry of Holy Sacrament Episcopal Church in Pembroke Pines, Florida; a traditional Garifuna prayer; a dramatic reading by All Saints’ parishioner Althea Leslie; and other prayers and hymns.

A festive reception followed in the All Saints’ undercroft.
