The Rt. Rev. Lawrence C. Provenzano, Bishop of Long Island, joined four fellow Episcopal bishops and more than 160 faith leaders from across the country in signing a letter urging the U.S. Senate to reject the proposed reconciliation bill.
“This bill is unholy, unkind, and unamerican,” said Bishop Provenzano, calling out its harm to the elderly, poor, sick, and the environment. “It represents our worst inclinations as a nation.”
The statement, organized by the interfaith climate group GreenFaith, includes signers from nearly every major faith tradition, unified in opposition to corporate giveaways and cuts to critical support systems. It reflects a growing movement among religious leaders to center justice, compassion, and environmental stewardship in public policy.
