The Episcopal Mission in Sunnyside celebrated the launch of its weekly services and programming on Sunday, September 14, with a packed gathering of over 100 friends, neighbors, and community members. The day included a worship service and festive community celebration, marking a new chapter in the Mission’s presence in the neighborhood.

Father Carl Adair reflected on the Mission’s vision: “a community where healing and liberation can be witnessed and celebrated. I wonder if we could become that kind of community here… To allow ourselves to be found, to be known, and to be held in delight—here, together.”

Over the past year, the Mission hosted experimental, community-driven events exploring fresh expressions of Christian life and service. With the launch, it begins a consistent schedule of Sunday worship, intergenerational programming, and neighborhood events while continuing to respond to community needs.

“We’re building on the practices of renewal, curiosity, and hope that have shaped our first year together,” said Father Carl Adair. “We look forward to welcoming neighbors of all backgrounds to join us as we begin this next chapter—because we want to be a blessing to this whole neighborhood.”

The celebration featured music by Ali Dineen, the Mission’s “remixer of sacred music,” and a performance by the Sunnyside Drum Corps, reflecting its commitment to creativity, joy, and connection.

Rooted in the Christian tradition, the Episcopal Mission emphasizes community practice—gathering for worship, reflection, service, and the arts—and provides an inclusive space for people from diverse backgrounds to connect and flourish.

Continuing the legacy of All Saints Episcopal Church, which served Sunnyside from 1928 until 2020, the Mission combines historical continuity with new approaches to neighborhood-centered spiritual life.

The public is invited to participate in ongoing weekly services and programs.
