La Catedral de la Encarnación se llenó de música alegre, colores vibrantes y una maravillosa participación de personas de toda la Diócesis de Long Island el sábado 25 de octubre para la Celebración de la Herencia Latina. Fue un día hermoso de unidad y fe, en el que se honró la rica historia, cultura y los valiosos dones espirituales de las comunidades latinas e hispanas de nuestra diócesis.
La celebración comenzó con una animada Santa Eucaristía, donde el Rdmo. Obispo Lawrence C. Provenzano ofreció una conmovedora homilía sobre la fe, la perseverancia y la confianza en la gracia de Dios. Reflexionando sobre la parábola de la viuda persistente, el Obispo Provenzano recordó a la congregación que la oración no se trata de cambiar la mente de Dios, sino de profundizar nuestra confianza en su amor inquebrantable. “Dios nos sostiene”, enfatizó, llamando a todos los presentes a vivir sin miedo y a ser la Iglesia en el mundo—unidos en compasión y esperanza.
Después de la Eucaristía, la celebración continuó con un animado programa cultural que incluyó música, danza y comidas que representaban la diversidad de América Latina. Familias y grupos parroquiales compartieron momentos de alegría y compañerismo, mientras los jóvenes y niños participaron en actividades especiales que celebraban su fe y herencia.
La Celebración de la Herencia Latina fue un recordatorio poderoso de la belleza de una Iglesia que ora, canta y sirve unida en muchos idiomas y tradiciones—una sola familia en Cristo, unida por la gracia infinita de Dios.
The Cathedral of the Incarnation was filled with joyful music, vibrant colors, and a wonderful turnout as people from across the Diocese of Long Island gathered on Saturday, October 25, for the annual Celebración de la Herencia Latina. The day was a beautiful expression of unity and faith, honoring the rich history, culture, and spiritual gifts of the Latino and Hispanic communities within our diocese.
The celebration began with a spirited Holy Eucharist, where the Rt. Rev. Lawrence C. Provenzano, Bishop of Long Island, offered a heartfelt sermon on faith, perseverance, and trust in God’s grace. Reflecting on the parable of the persistent widow, Bishop Provenzano reminded the congregation that prayer is not about changing God’s mind, but about deepening our trust in God’s unwavering love. “God has us,” he emphasized, calling all present to live without fear and to be the Church in the world—united in compassion and hope.
Following the Eucharist, the celebration continued with a lively cultural program featuring music, dance, and food representing the diversity of Latin America. Families and parish groups shared in fellowship and joy, while youth and children took part in special activities designed to celebrate their heritage and faith.
The Latin Heritage Celebration was a powerful reminder of the beauty of a Church that prays, sings, and serves together in many languages and traditions—one family in Christ, united by God’s boundless grace.
