Dear Friends in Christ,
As we continue the sacred work of discernment in choosing the Ninth Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island, we invite the participation and wisdom of every parish community across our diocese.
The Meet & Greet sessions, taking place March 9th through 14th, will offer opportunities for clergy and laity to engage directly with the nominees for bishop through prayerful conversation and thoughtful dialogue. To help ensure that these gatherings reflect the voices and concerns of the entire diocese, we are inviting parishes to submit questions in advance.
Purpose of the Questions: Your submitted questions will help shape the moderated Q&A portions of each Meet & Greet.
These questions should aim to:
- Reflect the hopes, challenges, and priorities of our diocesan community.
- Encourage spiritual and pastoral reflection, not debate.
- Allow the nominees to share their vision for leadership, faith journey, and commitment to the diverse people and ministries of the Diocese of Long Island.
Guidelines for Submitting Questions:
Discuss potential questions within your parish leadership, vestry, or parish groups.
Deadline for submissions: February 20th, 2026.
While all questions submitted will be reviewed prayerfully, not all of them will make it to the final slate of questions asked at the Meet and Greets. All submissions will be reviewed by the Meet & Greet planning team to ensure that a broad range of voices and perspectives are represented at each event.
We give thanks for your prayerful engagement in this process. The election of a bishop is not simply an administrative act, but a moment of deep spiritual discernment for our entire diocesan family. Together, let us continue to listen for the Holy Spirit as we seek a shepherd who will lead us in faith, service, and love.
Faithfully,
The Transition Committee for the Ninth Bishop of Long Island
