To Our Beloved Siblings in Christ,
On behalf of the clergy and people of the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island, I offer congratulations to our siblings in the Roman Catholic Church—especially in the Diocese of Brooklyn and the Diocese of Rockville Centre—on the election of Pope Leo XIV.
On this historic occasion—the election of the first-ever U.S.-born pope—we celebrate with you and give thanks for this new chapter in the life of the universal Church.
We pledge our prayers, support and solidarity as this new pontiff begins his ministry as a bridge-builder in the midst of all God’s people. In this world so desperately in need of hope, justice, healing and love, our common witness to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ is strengthened by our cooperation and mutual affection.
As Pope Leo began his pontificate with these words, let us endeavor to prayerfully fulfill his intention, “La pace sia con voi”—peace be with you.
Prayers of thanksgiving and solidarity will be offered during every celebration of the Holy Eucharist across the Diocese of Long Island this weekend.
In Christ's peace,

The Rt. Rev. Lawrence C. Provenzano
Bishop of Long Island
