Reflections from GC81 - The Rev. Cn. Karen Davis Lawson

The Rev. Canon Karen Davis-Lawson, Rector of St. David's Episcopal Church in Cambria Heights, shares her experience as a Clergy Delegate to the 81st General Convention in Louisville, Kentucky. As a deputy to General Convention, Mother Davis-Lawson and her colleagues deliberate on and vote on resolutions presented at the convention. To date, they have addressed at least one-third of the resolutions, covering a diverse range of topics. Among the highlights was the admission of Navajo land as a missionary diocese and the approval of the resolution on the Denominational Health Plan.

Mo. Davis-Lawson is serving as the Vice-Chair of Committee Number 12: Agencies and Boards, at the 81st General Convention. The committee received resolutions assigned by the President of the House of Deputies and the Presiding Bishop. Key topics of deliberation included the Denominational Health Plan and compensation for non-stipendiary clergy, particularly deacons.

Mo. Davis-Lawson is honored to be part of this significant event in the life of the Episcopal Church, and being able to contribute to the decisions that help shape the future of the church.
