Dear People of the Diocese of Long Island,
The Search Committee for the 9th Bishop extend our heartfelt thanks to each of you who participated in the diocesan survey and our ongoing listening sessions. Your willingness to share your hopes, concerns, and dreams for the future of our church has been extraordinary. We are especially grateful to announce that our participation rate in the survey was the second highest that Holy Cow Consulting has ever recorded among all the dioceses with which they have worked. This remarkable level of engagement is a true testament to the care, commitment, and prayerful discernment of our diocesan community.
Remember, there is still opportunity to share your thoughts at the remaining listening sessions, which can be found here at this link.
We are also pleased that the Joint Oversight Committee has set Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the Cathedral of the Incarnation for the Special Convention to elect the next Bishop of Long Island. This important day will be a milestone in our common life, and we invite the prayers of the entire diocese as we move toward it together.
As we continue in this journey, there are still a few remaining listening sessions. We encourage all who are able to take part, as these conversations are vital in shaping the profile and priorities for our next bishop.
Finally, we are glad to share that the Diocesan Profile will be published by the end of September. This profile will reflect the voices we have heard, and it will serve as an essential guide for those discerning a call to serve as the Ninth Bishop of Long Island.
We thank you again for walking with us in this holy work. Please continue to keep the Search Committee, the Transition Committee, the Joint Oversight Committee, and the whole Diocese in your prayers as together we listen for the movement of the Holy Spirit.
Faithfully,
The Search Committee for the Ninth Bishop
