Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
We are pleased to announce that the Diocesan Profile for the Search for the Ninth Bishop of Long Island will be published on Wednesday, September 24. This profile represents the voices, hopes, and prayers of the people of our Diocese, gathered through surveys, listening sessions, and prayerful discernment.
As we take this next important step in our search process, we ask both clergy and lay people across the Diocese to hold our future Bishop in prayer—that the Holy Spirit may guide us to a faithful, wise, and loving leader for this next chapter in our common life.
We also encourage you to prayerfully consider who in our diocese and the wider Episcopal Church might be called to this ministry. Once the profile is published, we invite you to share it broadly with those who may discern a call to serve, and to post it on your social media platforms to help extend the reach of our search.
As we move into the discernment phase of the search, there will be fewer public updates about the actions of the committee. This is because confidentiality is essential to honor the integrity of the process and those who may be discerning a call. Please be assured, however, that the work continues faithfully and on schedule. We remain on track to present a slate of nominees for approval to the Joint Oversight Committee by the end of January.
Thank you for your continued prayers, faithfulness, and support in this holy work.
In Christ,
The Search Committee for the Ninth Bishop of Long Island
