New Resource: Signs and Grace: An Introduction to the Sacraments
A new video-based course, Signs and Grace: An Introduction to the Sacraments, is now available for congregational and small group use. Produced by Forward Movement in partnership with The Episcopal Church, this three-session resource provides foundational teaching and structured space for discussion regarding the sacramental life.
This course is free of charge and intended for use during Sunday morning formation, weekday small groups, or online sessions.
Course Content and Purpose
Signs and Grace explores the theology and practice of baptism, Eucharist, and the sacramental rites of the church. By engaging with scripture and the liturgy of The Episcopal Church, participants explore how sacraments serve as tangible ways to encounter God.
The sessions feature instruction from Scott Gunn and Melody Shobe, with video segments filmed at St. Francis Episcopal Church in North Bellmore.
Format and Materials
The course is designed for flexibility, offering options for either 45-minute or 60-minute sessions. Each of the three sessions includes the following components:
20-Minute Video: Available for online streaming or for download in advance.
Facilitator Guide: Includes group facilitation tips, a prepared script, Bible study passages, and discussion questions.
Participant Guide: Provides space for note-taking, reflection, and group prompts.
Implementation Options
Signs and Grace is designed to be flexible so that you can use it in the way that best suits your community:
45-Minute Class: This shorter option utilizes the facilitator guide and the 20-minute video but omits the in-class Bible study. Leaders are encouraged to have participants read the assigned Bible passage between classes.
60-Minute Class: This full-length option utilizes the facilitator guide and the 20-minute video while including the Bible study as part of the group session.
